Neurons, Behavior & Art

Dear colleagues:

The "Neuroscience Art Gallery", promoted by the electronic
magazine "Brain & Mind" is happy to announce its second on-line
exhibit, "Neurons of Fear and Defense". The images were produced
by Prof. Norberto Cysne Coimbra, MD, PhD, a neuroanatomist and neurobiologist
of the Medical School of Ribeirao Preto, University of Sao Paulo,
who is a member of our group of collaborators.

Prof. Coimbra has produced an impressive collection of images
of neurons, which are known to elicit fear and defense
behaviors in rats when they are chemically or electrically stimulated.
They are not drawn or painted, but are rather photographs of neurons which
were taken using fluorescence microscopy.

Even so, they have an ethereal beauty seen only in abstract
paintings, reminding us that neuroscience is fascinating not
only because of its knowledge and concepts, but also because
it shows us the inherent beauty of biological structures.

We cordially invite you to visit the Gallery and send your
remarks to the author.

The address is: http://www.epub.org.br/cm/
