Subscriptions, spamming and non-responding addresses

A few lines from your list manager:

As there have been some requests for help with how to unsubscribe directed the list I just want to remind you that all matters concerning subscription/unsubscription should preferrably be sent directly to the listserver computer at <LISTSERV@LISTSERV.UMU.

SE> to avoid unnecessary traffic over the net. If there are any problems, send me a line.

A couple of messages have appeared where people have reported that they have (a) recieved spamming messages and/or (b) been added to one or more lists without their knowledge and consent.

Spamming is a mess and there are many known (and also many less well known...) ways to try to stop it - this is also being done for the CLIN_NEUROPHYSIOL list. However, not all messages sent directly to the list are being detected. Also, some messages to

the list may be finally accepeted if they are broadly related to the neurosciences, given that they follow the basic rules: Brief, Adequate and Polite.

Regarding the second problem; this behaviour is of course completely intolerable! If someone has been added to the list incorrectly and wishes to be removed, without knowing where and how to do it, please send me a mail!

In the coming days I will also do some "cleaning" of the address list, as messages to some members of the list are "bouncing back" because of different reasons (subscriber moved, changed address, mailbox full, etc, etc). The addresses in question are rath

er few, but they have now been giving a stream of error messages for the last 6 months. I hope that this action will not cause any problems among those concerned!

It might also be of interest for you to know the present size of the list, which is around 150 addresses.

Regards
/Erik
