Distributed modules...



 Possible answer to the question about PET studies showing
localized activity even though data indicates distributed
processing -

Check out your Kandel & Schwartz textbook!
Just because an activity in the brain is distributed,
does not mean that its COMPONENTS can't be distributed -
in other words, there are "modules" which perform certain
computations, at specific locations - their activity,
taken as a whole, is distributed, and results in a
net brain activity know as "cognition".

For example, Broca's area and Wernicke's area are
BOTH involved in language processing -
localized components of a distributed process.
